Final
As expected the final started with both players swapping blocks and after 8 ends Alan Bidwell was just in front 12-10 but then Denis Lord had a run with it and won four of the next five ends to lead 16-13 on the top edge of the green. A good lead by him was beaten by Alan who then paired up. Holding the jack for the next 3 ends he scored two doubles and a single to go allbut 16. Denis scored at the 18th end but then sent his lead bowl off with the jack near the edge of the green. Alan put up a reasonable lead, Denis corrected his error and put up a good second bowl only for Alan to better it and take the cup.
Semi Finals
Alan got off to a flying start against Wilf Flanagan winning 8 of the first 10 ends to lead 18-8. However, Wilf wasn't to be outdone and then took five of the next six ends to close the gap to 19-15, but then dropped two single on the next two ends to go down 21-15.
Up to the eighth end Denis's game against Bob Horrocks was fairly tight with the score at 12-11 to Denis. Although at times his leading was a bit wayward Denis nearly always corrected and a combination of that and a bit of fortune (a bit says Bob!!) he leaped into a 18-12 lead. Bob scored a double and a single over the next three ends to 15-19 but two singles from Denis saw him through.
Quarter Finals
Jack Ashton had a good start against Alan and lead 12-10 after six ends but that was the end of the scoring for him as Alan won the next eight ends for a 21-12 win.
Like Jack Dave Farrell had the better of the opening exchanges and had a 16-8 lead after eight ends. Denis then took charge and scored at eleven of the next twelve ends to leave Dave shell-shocked.
Homester Graham Stanley had to concede two chalks to Bob and the latter made the most of it as he surged into a 12-7 lead. Graham then made use of his home green and after 15 ends they were level at 15 across. Bob, however, than took the block and kept if for the next four ends to win 21-15.
Wilf played teammate John Owen and like a lot of the games it was John who lead after 4 ends 12-6 only for Wilf to win the next five ends to level. A two from John was followed by a double and single from Wilf and then a single from John to peel at 15. Again, as in other games one player took charge, in this case Wilf, over the next four ends for two doubles and two singles for a 21-15 scoreline.
